Introducing the Academy

Founded 1983 Global Academic Network

Overview of the International Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law.

The International Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law is composed of more than one hundred specially selected leading scholars from throughout the world. Its central purpose is the global exchange of ideas. This purpose has been fulfilled for nearly four decades and continues today.

Although important commercial and consumer law conferences and scholarly groups have existed, there had not previously been an appropriate overall international network dedicated to sustained exchange among experts in this field. The Academy was formed in the early 1980s to address this need.

Invitations were issued in 1981 and 1982 to a limited number of distinguished commercial and consumer law scholars across multiple jurisdictions. By the end of 1982, the Academy had become a viable and active entity, marking a new era in international scholarly collaboration.

In 1983, the Academy was formally organized at its first conference in Mexico City, Mexico. Those attending this conference became the founding members.

Since then, the Academy has established an enviable record of:

  • International conferences bringing together leading scholars
  • Published articles and academic books authored by members
  • Publication of conference papers and scholarly proceedings
  • Establishment of academic and research centers by members
  • Contributions to major national and international law reforms
  • Scholarly evaluation and analysis shaping future legal developments

Today, the Academy continues to serve as a unique and influential global forum dedicated to advancing commercial and consumer law scholarship.
