Principles
The fundamental principles guiding the Academy’s mission, values, and international scholarly community.
Non-Political and Non-Discriminatory
A cardinal principle of the Academy is that it shall remain non-political and non-discriminatory in both its activities and its membership.
The Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law is not an organization of nations, but rather a community of scholars united by shared intellectual interests and commitment to scholarship. Just as international athletic competitions historically welcomed participants regardless of their governments, scholarly collaboration must transcend political boundaries. The Academy reflects this same spirit of academic independence and international engagement.
Accordingly, the Academy does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of:
- Religion
- Race
- Nationality
- Gender
- Age
- Or any other improper or unrelated basis
Some members may hold emeritus status at their universities, reflecting their continued scholarly distinction and contribution.
Worldwide Representation
The principle of worldwide representation is fundamental to the Academy’s mission.
Through its international membership, the Academy contributes—within its scope—to greater global understanding and goodwill. Many challenges in commercial and consumer law are shared across jurisdictions and are not confined to any single country. The Academy recognizes the importance of addressing these issues through international scholarly collaboration.
Membership has therefore been extended to distinguished experts from countries throughout the world. Most major commercial law jurisdictions are represented, ensuring that the Academy reflects a broad and diverse range of legal perspectives.
